A little later (after she has turned 16) she started calling the Bargainer to her room every night for a year because she was feeling lonely and wanted a friend. ![]() The reason I’m conflicted is because the mc and the Bargainer (a mythical and ancient faerie) met for the first time when the mc was 15 because she needed his help. (Slight spoiler for the first quarter of Rhapsodic coming) Hi Em! Have you read the Bargainer series by Laura Thalassa? I recently started Rhapsodic (the first one) and I’m unsure about wheter to continue. ![]()

![]() ![]() I remember moderating Marie Lu at the Coral Gables, Miami indie bookstore Books & Books in a live author event back in 2019 for the release of her last book in the Legend series, Rebel, and also that same year for the release of her Batman: Nightwalker graphic novel and book. Featuring themes like romance, dystopia, and fantasy, Marie Lu is one writer who surely knows how to dive into different worlds and give readers something to talk about. Young adult author Marie Lu is the type of writer who has a fantastical and fictional world for every taste. ![]() ![]() ![]() (For evidence of how deep this love goes, bear in mind that I named my daughter Laura after her, as I explained in this post on my personal blog.) ![]() My long-standing love of Laura Ingalls Wilder‘s fictionalised memoirs of her childhood as an early American pioneer primed me to enjoy this novel. When I was offered a free review copy of US author and writing teacher Cindy Rinaman Marsch’s debut novel, I jumped to accept, drawn in by the beautiful cover and the story of the novel’s origin: the imagining of a back-story behind the antique diaries of the character whose name give the book its title: Rosette. ![]() ![]() ![]() Rather, the transatlantic slave experience was multiple. In doing so, she analyzes the erasures that are endemic to the act of historicizing the experience of mass atrocity. Rather than look at the displacement of Africans from a statistical, economic, or otherwise quantitative view, Mustakeem validates their individual narratives, exploring and humanizing their uniqueness. ![]() African-American historian and professor Sowande Mustakeem’s Slavery at Sea (2016), is both a historical analysis and theoretical revision of the tragic trafficking of black bodies in the eighteenth century, a time when no legal recourse existed enshrining their basic rights or offering recourse for their suffering. ![]() ![]() ![]() There have been plenty of times I've wished one of the fictional characters I've read about actually were real. Review from The Vampire stalker had potential.a lot of potential but it just didn't quite hit it. ![]() Even taking that into consideration THE VAMPIRE STALKER really just ended up being a neat, fun read that I'm glad I read and I think any teen would be happy to pick it up. Instead of flowing and bending if that makes sense. ![]() ![]() The story moved along like there was a timeline that had to be followed 1. There was parts of the story that come of unbelievable or predictable. There romance built up really slowly and felt genuine. Amy is absolutely in love with Alexander in the novels so I figured that Amy would see him and go all fan girl gaga over him but she really composed herself and though she was all fan girl inside, she was way cool and in control on the outside. I enjoyed the romance between Alexander and Amy. Her descriptions were a bit lacking and I wasn't able to picture everything in my head but I liked the way she explained that some people can tap into the "Otherworld" and that is actually what the Author of the books was doing all along. Seriously who doesn't wish that would happen while you are reading? I enjoyed the authors creation of dual Chicago. It would be so neat to have some of my fave vampires come out of their books and right into my life. I found the whole concept of this book interesting. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Savvy art lovers will have already guessed the painter’s identity, as the restaurant is decorated with similar drawings left in payment by this most famous diner.
